Get to know JEE Main entrance exam

  • JEE main, or commonly known as ‘Joint Entrance Exam’ is the national level undergraduate engineering entrance exam that is conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA). This exam is a gateway for the admission to various B.Tech/B.E programmes offered by 31 NITs, 23 IIITs and 23 CFTIs. Every year around 15 lakh applicants appear for this examination to get through the prestigious engineering colleges.
  • JEE Main is one of the famous and recognized levels of entrance exam for 10+2 candidates to get entry to seek admission in IIT as well. From 2019, JEE Main will be conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA), twice a year in computer-based mode only. Also, JEE Main is the qualifying test for JEE Advanced through which candidates can get admission to 23 IITs.
  • Most states have now joined JEE Main and disbanded their own state level exams. Therefore JEE Main is the exam required for almost all engineering college admissions in India, both at state and national level.

JEE Main-2019 Eligibility Criteria

Remember that there are important and strict eligibility criteria fixed by the Board for the examination. Note that one has to adhere to the criteria before appearing for the JEE main 2019. Following are the criteria:

  • Age Criteria: NTA has removed the age limit. However, candidates who have passed 12th exam or equivalent examination in 2017, 2018 or should be appearing for the same in 2019 in irrespective of their birth date can appear for the JEE mains 2019.
  • Qualifying Examinations: Must have passed class 12 or equivalent exam in 2017 or 2018. Candidates appearing for class 12 board examination in 2019 will be also eligible for JEE Main 2019.
  • Subjects to be Qualified in Qualifying Examination: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry/Biology/Biotechnology/Technical Vocational Subject, Language and any other subject
  • Qualifying Marks for Admission into IITs, NITs, IIITs and CFTIs: Must score the minimum of 75% marks or should be in the top 20 percentile of their respective boards. For candidates belonging to SC/ST category minimum scores required is 65%.
  • For JEE Main Paper-II- Candidates seeking admission to the architecture course must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and also 50% marks in aggregate in the qualifying examination.
  • No Diploma holder is eligible for the entrance exam.

The new changes in JEE Main 2019 allow for candidates to appear twice for the entrance exam in a given year. The better of the two scores will be used for the purpose of ranking as per the regulations laid by the authorities.

JEE Main-2019 Application Process

The JEE main 2019 application form is released online by NTA. The application form for both the papers will be same. Candidates can fill application form either for Paper-I or Paper-II or for both.
  • Mode of Application : You can apply for the JEE Main exam both Online and Offline
  • Mode of Payment : You can do the payment via net banking, Credit Card, Debit Card, Bank Challan or Others.
  • Application Fees: Remember to check out the application fees on their official site, online before you start applying for the exam.

Note: From October 8 to 14, NTA had provided JEE Main 2019 application correction facility. During this time period, candidates were able to edit some of the prescribed information in their application form. Also, fees had to be paid for the corrections as requisite by the authorities.

JEE Main-2019 -Admit Cards

  • JEE Main 2019 admit card is an important document. Without admit card of JEE Main 2019 candidates will not be allowed to enter the examination hall.
  • JEE Main Admit Card 2019 will be able in online mode. The details like name, exam centre address, admit card number, roll number, timing of examination, paper appearing for, gender and more will be displayed on the admit card of JEE Main 2019.
  • To download JEE Main 2019 admit card candidates need to log-in to their account using their application number, password and security pin. However, before downloading the admit card candidates must check all the information furnished on it.
  • Along with the admit card Candidate need to carry a valid photo id proof (College/ School ID Card, Driving License, Passport) to the exam centre.

JEE Main 2019 – Exam Dates

  • Application form start:1st Sep 2018
  • Admit Card Release: 17th Dec 2018
  • Exam Date: Likely 6th– 20th Jan 2019
  • Results: 31st Jan 2019
  • Counselling: Jun 2019

JEE Main 2019 – Exam Pattern

There are usually two papers for the examination. Find below the detailed pattern of them.

JEE Main Paper 1

Following is exam pattern for the JEE Main 2019 Paper-I held for B.Tech course:

  • Mode of Examination: Computer-Based Test
  • Examination Duration: 3 Hours
  • Number of Shifts: Paper-I will be held in two shifts per day (9:30 am to 12:30 pm and 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm)
  • Sections: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics
  • Type of Questions: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
  • Number of Questions in Sections: Physics-30, Chemistry-30 and Mathematics-30
  • Marking Scheme: Every correct answer will be awarded 4 marks while for incorrect response1 mark will be deducted.

JEE Main Paper 2

Following is exam pattern for the JEE Main 2019 Paper-I held for B.Arch course:

  • Mode of Exam- Mathematics and Aptitude Test will be held as a computer-based test, while the drawing exam will be in offline (pen and paper based) mode
  • Duration of Examination- 3 Hours
  • Number of Shit- Paper-2 will be held in only one shift
  • Sections- Mathematics, General Aptitude, Drawing Skills
  • Type of Questions- Objective questions in Mathematics and Aptitude. While drawing test will assess drawing and sketching abilities.
  • Number of Questions in Each Section: Aptitude – 50, Mathematics – 30 and Drawing – 2
  • Marking Scheme: Every correct answer will fetch 4 marks, whereas 1 mark will be deducted for each incorrect response. In case of drawing questions, it will be of total 70 marks. The marks for each question will be mentioned along with it.

Difference Between JEE Main and JEE Advanced

There are several differences between JEE Main and Advanced. Some of the major ones include:

  • Every candidate clearing the eligibility criteria can appear for the JEE (Main). However, the JEE (Advanced) is an option only for the top 1.5 lakh JEE Main
  • Every candidate clearing the eligibility criteria can appear for the JEE (Main). However, the JEE (Advanced) is an option only for the top 1.5 lakh JEE Main
  • The JEE Main can be appeared for only three times in a lifetime. The JEE Advanced can be attempted for a maximum of two times in consecutive years.
