What is Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)?

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is India’s most reputed and well-known Entrance Examination for facilitating admissions into the finest and best engineering colleges across India. It is conducted in two phases: the first one being the JEE Main, and the second one being the JEE Advanced. Whereas the NITs, IIITs and other Central or State Funded Institutes grant admissions based on the results of JEE Main, the IITs and the ISM Dhanbad grant admission based on the results of JEE Advanced. Also, the students are eligible to write the JEE Advanced only if they clear the cut off marks prescribed for the JEE Main. The JEE Advanced for facilitating admissions into the IITs and ISM Dhanbad is considered as one of the toughest exams in the world, in which over 1.4 million students appear annually while only 20000 get a rank.

Who can apply for JEE Entrance Exams?

• Age Criteria: Candidates born on or after October 1, 1993 are eligible to apply for the JEE (main) 2018. (Relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST and PwD candidates)
• 12th Standard or Equal Examination: Candidates must have passed their 10+2 with Mathematics and Physics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Biotechnology/ Chemistry /Biology/ Technical Vocational subject. The checklist of equivalent exams is also available. The candidates must have passed their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in the years 2015 or 2016. Candidates who are appearing in their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2017 are also eligible for the same, provided their result is declared before June 15, 2017.
• Qualifying Marks: Candidates belonging to the General Category must secure at least 75% marks or be among the top 20 percentile in the qualifying examination or their 12th Standard. The SC/ST candidates need to secure at least 65% marks.
• Subjects in Qualifying Examination: Candidates should’ve studied at least five subjects in their qualifying examination. Applicants who have studied only four subjects will not be eligible.
• Aadhar Card Requirement: CBSE has introduced a new eligibility criterion from 2017-18 whereby all candidates must have a registered Aadhar Card Number to be able to apply.
• The Number of Attempts: Students can attempt JEE Main 2017 for a maximum of 3 times. However, in the case of JEE Advanced, a student can make only 2 attempts in their consecutive years.

How do I Register for JEE Main 2017?

Applicants will have to fill the JEE Main application form online. There is no need to submit any documents to the authorities. Candidates can follow the steps given below to fill the JEE Main 2017 application form.

1. Registration: Candidates have to register first by giving their details, i.e., their Name, Email Id, Mobile No. etc. They must also choose the username and password for their login ID which must be kept safe for the entire duration of the JEE Main 2017 process till the admission is complete.
2. Filling the Application Form: After logging in, the candidates need to enter their Board examination details, JEE Main examination details, personal details, academic qualifications, contact details, guardian details etc.

• Candidates appearing in the improvement examination in 2017 must select the year of appearing as 2017 while candidates who have passed class XII in 2015 and have appeared for improvement in five subjects in 2016 must select the year in which their performance is better.
• Candidates who are appearing for their class XII exams in 2017 need not enter their roll number. They will be required to enter the details while downloading their admit card.
• Applicants must also choose their choice of exam centers from the given list as per their preferences. Kindly note that the list of exam centers is dependent on the mode of the exam chosen – CBT or Pen & Paper.

Fee Payment

Fees can be paid online through Credit/Debit Card, or offline by depositing fee in cash in the Syndicate/Canara/ICICI/HDFC bank through the e-challan generated during the online filling of application form.

JEE Test Pattern

Both JEE Main and JEE Advance test are objective type paper. Duration of both the papers is 3 hours (180 minutes).
