Total Number of Attempts Allowed  for JEE Mains and JEE Advanced

Now that we have understood the eligibility criteria for both JEE Main and JEE Advanced, we must understand the number of attempts allowed for these challenging exams. Let’s know it in the following sections.

How Many Attempts for JEE Mains Are Allowed?

For students curious about the number of attempts in JEE Mains 2024, it's essential to note that the exam will be held twice this year. The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the JEE Main 2024 exam in two attempts, one in January and the other in April.

The first attempt for the JEE Main 2024 exam was conducted from January 24 to February 1, while the second attempt will be conducted from April 4 to 15. Consequently, students will have two opportunities to sit for the JEE Main exam 2024.

Students who passed their Class 12 exams in 2021 can appear for the JEE Main 2024 exam twice in both January and April sessions. Similarly, students who completed their Class 12 exams in 2022 can also take the JEE Mains 2024 exam twice, in January and April.

Those who are set to appear for their Class 12 board exams in 2024 can also participate in the JEE Main 2024 exam twice, once in January and again in April.

However, students taking their 12 board exams in 2024 or later won't be able to appear in the JEE Mains 2024 exam. They will be eligible to take the JEE Mains exam in subsequent years.

How Many Attempts for JEE Advanced Are Allowed?

An aspirant can attempt the JEE Advanced exam twice in two consecutive years. For example,  if you have cleared the JEE Mains in 2023 and will give your first JEE Advanced attempt in 2024, then 2025 will be considered your second attempt. If you fail to appear for the exam in 2025, you will not be able to apply again and will exhaust your chances.
