How many questions are there in JEE Mains: The question "How many questions are there in JEE Mains?" is a common concern for aspiring engineering students in India. JEE Mains Exam Pattern Highlights

There will be two papers in the JEE Main 2024 exam: Paper 1 for B.Tech/B.E and Paper 2 for B.Arch/B.Plan. Paper 2 is further separated into two papers, Paper 2A and 2B. The subjects included in each paper are as follows:

  • Paper 2A (B.Arch): Mathematics, Aptitude, and Drawing

JEE Mains Types of Questions

  • Paper 1(B.Tech): There will be a total of 60 MCQ-type questions having four options, each with one correct option and another 30 questions for which the answer is a numerical value.

  • Paper 2A(B.Arch): There will be 20 MCQ and ten numerical answer-based questions from mathematics. The Aptitude section contains 50 MCQ,s and the Drawing section has two questions.

  • Paper 2B (B.Plan): The Mathematics section will contain 20 MCQs and ten numerical answer-based questions. The Aptitude section contains 50 MCQs and will be Planning-based 25 objective-type questions.

JEE Mains Questions Marking Scheme

  • For each correct answer, four marks will be given

  • For each wrong answer, there will be a deduction of 1 mark

  • No marks will be given for unattempted questions

  • For the Drawing section, there will be two questions a total of 100 marks

JEE Main Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech.) Number of Questions

  • There will be 30 questions each from the physics, chemistry, and mathematics sections.

  • Each subject will have two sections, Section A and Section B.

  • Section A will have 30 Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs), and Section B will contain 10 Numerical Value Questions.

  • In Section A, candidates have to attempt any 25 questions out of 30 given questions.

  • In Section B, candidates should answer any five questions out of 10 given questions.

JEE Main Paper 2 (B.Arch.) Number of Questions

  • There will be 82 questions, out of which 77 must be answered.

  • Section A of the Mathematics section will have 20 multiple-choice questions, and Section B will contain 10 questions whose answers will be numerical.

  • In Section B, any five questions out of 10 questions are to be attempted by candidates.

  • No marks are deducted for wrong answers in Section B.

JEE Main Paper 2 (B.Plan.) Number of Questions

  • There will be 105 questions, out of which 100 questions need to be answered.

  • Section A of the Mathematics section will have 20 multiple-choice questions, and Section B will contain ten questions whose answers will be given as a numerical value.

  • In Section B, candidates have to attempt any five questions out of 10 questions.

  • There will be no negative marking for Section B.

How Many Questions in JEE Mains FAQs

Q1. How many Non-MCQ questions have been included in the B.E/ B. Tech Paper of JEE Main 2024?

Ans. There will be ten questions each from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, which are not MCQ types and for which answers will be numerical values.

Q2. How many questions are to be answered in each of the physics, chemistry, and mathematics sections of the JEE Mains 2024?

Ans. There will be 20 MCQ-type questions in Section A and ten numerical value-based questions in Section B for each of the physics, chemistry, and mathematics sections of JEE Mains 2024. Out of 10 questions in Section B, candidates must answer five questions. Therefore, out of a total 90 questions, only 75 to be answered in the JEE mains 2024.

Q3. Is there any negative marking in the JEE Mains 2024 exam?

Ans. As per the marking scheme, there will be a deduction of 1 mark for each incorrect answer in both MCQ and numeric value-based answer questions.

Q4. What are the numerical value questions in the JEE Mains exam?

Ans. In JEE Main, NTA included ten questions in each subject, which have solutions in numerical values. Students will only need to respond to 15 questions out of 30 questions that are of the numerical value type. The answers to these questions will be of numerical values and should be rounded to the closest integer. 

Q5. Are the JEE mains conducted offline or online?

Ans. The JEE Main exam is conducted in computer-based online mode. The B.Tech and B. Plan exams are entirely conducted online, whereas the B.Arch exam is mainly conducted online with a drawing component conducted offline.
