JEE Eligibility Criteria 2024: The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is a crucial entrance exam for candidates willing to get admission to some of the leading engineering institutes in India for undergraduate technical courses. JEE Eligibility 2024

JEE Mains Eligibility 2024

The first stage of the JEE exam process is the JEE mains exam. It is conducted twice a year. Many candidates apply for the JEE mains exam for both sessions. Candidates fulfilling all the eligibility criteria for JEE mains 2024 can complete the JEE application process and appear in the JEE main exam. JEE Main 2024 does not have any age restrictions; nevertheless, applicants are advised to confirm if there are any age limit criteria imposed by the institute to which they are going to apply. 

JEE Mains Qualifying Exam Passing Year Eligibility

Candidates must have passed a qualifying exam of Class 12 in 2022 or 2023. Applicants may also apply to JEE Main if they plan to sit for the class 12 exam or an equivalent qualifying test in 2024. The details are clarified in the table given below.

JEE Main Eligibility Number of Subjects

All candidates taking the JEE Main 2024 must have at least five subjects in their qualifying exams, with Physics and Math as their core subjects. Candidates having less than five subjects covered in the qualifying exam will not be allowed to sit for JEE Main 2024. The subject details for various courses offered through JEE mains are as follows:

  • B.E/B.Tech: Candidates must have passed the qualifying exam with Mathematics, Physics, and any of the following subjects: Technical Vocational Subjects, Chemistry, Biology, or Biotechnology.

  • B.Arch: Candidates must have completed the qualifying examinations in Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics.

  • B. Plan: Candidates must have received a passing grade in mathematics on the qualifying exam.

JEE Main Eligibility Qualifying Percentage Marks

A minimum percentage of marks must be obtained by candidates in the Class 12 qualifying exam to be eligible for the JEE Main 2024 exam. Candidates in the general category must achieve a minimum of 75% marks overall, whereas a minimum of 65% marks are required for SC, ST, and PwD applicants.

JEE Main 2024 Eligibility List of Qualifying Exams

JEE Main 2024 eligibility criteria require completing class 12 exam from a center or state-recognized institute. The list of qualifying exams considered for eligibility in the JEE Main Exams is as follows:

  • The final examination of the 10+2 system is conducted by any recognized Central or State Board, such as the Central Board of Secondary Education, Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, etc. 

  • Final examination of the two-year course conducted by the Joint Services Wing of the National Defense Academy (NDA).

  • National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) final exam for courses with a minimum of five subjects. 

  • Any 10+2 equivalent exams conducted by Public Schools/ Board/ University in India or any foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

  • Higher Secondary Certificate Vocational Examination.

  • Diploma exam recognized by AICTE or a State board of technical education of minimum 3-year duration.

  • General Certificate of Education (GCE) examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.

JEE Mains 2024 Eligibility total number of attempts

  • The exam is given twice a year, and a candidate is allowed to appear for both.

  • A candidate may sit for the JEE Main examination for three consecutive years.

  • Appearing in the same year's sessions will count as one attempt.

JEE Mains 2024 State of Eligibility

  • While filling out the JEE mains 2024 application form, candidates must indicate the state code in which they passed their class 12 test or an equivalent exam.

  • The state in which a candidate passes their 12th-grade exam will determine their JEE Main Eligibility Criteria.

  • It is to be noted that the candidate's place of residence or birthplace has no connection with the State's eligibility code.

  • Candidates passing the class 12 exam from one state can appear for JEE mains from another state.

  • The state where a candidate first passed the Class 12 (or equivalent) examination will determine their state of eligibility but not the state from where they are appearing in the JEE exam.

  • The state code of eligibility for Indian nationals who passed the Class 12 (or equivalent) exam in Nepal or Bhutan will be determined according to the candidate's permanent address as mentioned in their passport.

JEE Main 2024 Eligibility for Droppers

  • Candidates appearing for the JEE mains a second time or more, there is no minimum age requirement applicable.

  • For the class 12 or qualifying exam, candidates must have taken at least five subjects including mathematics and physics.

  • JEE Main allows a maximum of three continuous attempts. Therefore, the candidates competing in 2024 must attempt the JEE exam in 2023 or 2022 but not earlier.

JEE Advanced Eligibility 2024

Candidates must know about the JEE advanced eligibility criteria as set by the authorities. These criteria define the eligibility of candidates who can take the JEE advanced exam. The JEE advanced eligibility criteria include the following parameters: 

Performance in JEE Main

  • Candidates must pass the JEE Main (paper 1) and secure a position among the first 2,50,000 qualified candidates (across all categories) of B.E./B.Tech candidates.

  • The following reservation criteria will determine which 2,50,000 JEE Main candidates in each category are eligible for JEE Advanced 2024:

JEE Advanced 2024 Age Limit

  • The maximum age eligibility criteria for the JEE Advanced exam is defined. Candidates born on or after October 1, 1998, can take the exam.

  • Candidates belonging to specific categories, such as SC, ST, or PwD, are allowed a five-year relaxation on maximum age.  Candidates under these categories become eligible for JEE Advanced 2024 if born on or after October 1, 1993. 

Appearance in the 12th (or comparable) exam

  • The JEE Advanced 2024 Exam is open to candidates who took the Class 12th exam 2023 or will appear for it in 2024.

  • Candidates must have completed Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as required courses in class XII.

  • Candidates who completed their class 12 exam in 2022 and the results were declared on or after October 25, 2022, are also eligible for the JEE advanced exam 2024.

Marks in the 12th Exam

Candidates must fulfill the JEE Advanced 2024 eligibility requirements for minimum scores they need to achieve in the Class 12 exam.

  • For General and OBC candidates applying for JEE Advanced 2024, the percentile needed in the 12th exam is 75%. For SC/ST applicants, the qualifying percentage of 65% is permissible to apply for JEE advanced.

  • The candidates’ marks in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Language, and any other subject will be considered while determining their aggregate marks.

JEE Advanced 2024 Eligibility Earlier Admissions to IITs

  • Students who have enrolled in an IIT or ISM can’t appear in JEE Advanced, whether or not they continue the program.

  • Candidates will not be allowed to take JEE Advanced if they have accepted an IIT seat earlier by reporting online or through a reporting center.

  • Candidates whose seats were canceled after they enrolled at any IIT for whatever reason are not eligible to appear for the JEE advanced exam.

  • Candidates who have been admitted to any preparatory course in any of the IITs in the previous year can apply for the JEE advanced exam.

JEE Advanced 2024 Number of Attempts

JEE Advanced is conducted once a year, and there is a limit to the number of times a candidate can appear for the JEE Advanced exam. As per the official criteria, candidates who have qualified in the JEE mains and fulfill all the required eligibility requirements can appear for JEE advanced for a maximum of two times in two consecutive years. After two consecutive attempts, candidates cannot appear for the JEE advanced exam.
